The “Resilience Gym” concept was born when its creator, Linda Hoopes, was sitting in Atlanta traffic on a summer afternoon. Linda has been researching resilience and resilient individuals for over two decades and is always looking for new ways to exercise her own “change muscles.” On this day, sitting in traffic, she realized she had two options: One, she could be frustrated and annoyed by the situation, or two, she could use it as a chance to build her resilience by calming down, practicing her Positivity, and turning on some good music. This was the moment she realized that the world is her best resilience gym.
Linda created the “My Resilience Gym” website to help others find a way to use everyday challenges to help them build their capability to deal with larger ones–to use the world as their resilience gym. A concept was born.
